APPEAL FOR VOLUNTEERS FROM DIN L-ART HELWA

Din l-Art Helwa, heritage NGO,  is needing volunteers to help it keep the historic Red Tower in Mellieha and the Wignacourt Tower in St Paul’s Bay open for longer hours during the summer months.  If you wish to volunteer a few hours a week, mornings or afternoon,  if you like meeting people from different countries, these two exciting historic places are located in splendid locations and are waiting for you.  All funds raised through visitor admissions help Din l-Art Helwa maintain these buildings for the nation. Even a few hours will help.  For more information please call the Din l-Art Helwa office, on 21225952 between 8.30 and 12.30.  Training will be given on the job.

2008 Blue Campaign Photographic Competition for the Marine Environment PDF E-mail

For the second consecutive year Din l-Art Helwa is organizing a photographic competition for the marine environment in order to raise awareness about the importance and state of the coastline and surrounding waters of the Maltese islands.  This initiative constitutes part of the Blue Campaign undertaken by the heritage and environmental organization and is open to all diving schools, clubs, students, lovers of the environment and the general public at large.

There are two categories for photographic entries, one is for photographs showing sea pollution or the negative effects of human activity on the sea or coastal environment around the Maltese islands.  The second category is for photographs showing the beauty and unique qualities of underwater life.

Members of the public intending to take part in the competition are requested to show their interest by writing to Din l-Art Helwa, c/o Stanley Farrugia Randon, 133 Melita Street, Valletta, and are to pick up their application forms and terms and conditions from the same address by not later than the end of July.  The closing date for entries will be the 7th September 2008 and the results will be announced on Friday 26th September 2008.  A prize of Euro240 is to be awarded to each of the winning entries for the two photographic categories.   Din l-Art Helwa believes such an exhibition will help raise awareness of the importance of the unique marine and coastal environment and the necessity to protect it for future generations and encourages the general public to participate.
